Senior Adult Spelling Bee offers food, fun, fabulous prizes

– The Northeast Ohio Senior Adult Spelling Bee for adults 55 and older is set for Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson.
Sponsored by Laurel Lake, Summa Health System and the Center for Healthy Aging, this year’s competition offers a Grand Prize trip for two to the AARP National Spelling Bee in historic Cheyenne, Wyoming the weekend of June 20, including air fare and two nights’ stay at the Little America Hotel & Resort.
Gift certificates from Suncrest Gardens, Fannie May Candies, The Learned Owl and Jake’s Good Life will also be awarded to top spellers, along with free passes to Actors Summit summer festival performances.
Complimentary appetizers will be provided by Hudson's Restaurant, with toe-tapping bluegrass music by the Frogtown String Band. In keeping with the event’s "Earth Week" theme, attendees can browse displays on "green" living and environmental awareness, including pollinator information from the Summit County Beekeepers Association.
The spelling bee consists of a written preliminary round followed by an oral round. Registration opens at 2:00 p.m., with the event to begin at 2:30. No fee is required to compete, but advance registration is recommended. To pre-register, call (330) 678-9210 or e-mail cha@en.com.
