STRIKE UP THE BAND
Laurel Lake Encore Chorale joins guest artists from Western Reserve Community Band for Spring Concert on June 4

May 15, 2012 -- The Laurel Lake Encore Chorale, sixty singers age 55 and older from Hudson and neighboring cities, will present its Spring Concerton Monday June 4 at 7 p.m. at Laurel Lake, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson.

Joining the Chorale will be a Guest Ensemble from the Western Reserve Community Band, under the direction of Ralph Meyer. The Western Reserve Community Band is an adult, non-professional community band founded in 1997 that has members from 19 surrounding communities. WRCB provides free musical entertainment and cultural enrichment to communities throughout northeastern Ohio. The band and its ensembles play a wide variety of music including marches, overtures, transcriptions, contemporary, classical, instrumental/vocal solos, Broadway show tunes, jazz, popular and patriotic music.

This year’s concert at Laurel Lake will include two rousing spirituals, "Great Gettin' Up Mornin'" and "Great Day"; a lively medley of early American folk tunes called "Celebration!"; popular jazz standards "Sentimental Journey" and "Moon River"; and the highlight of the evening, a tribute to America with "Strike Up The Band" and "American the Beautiful" sung by the Encore Chorale, and "76 Trombones," "Bill Bailey," John Philip Sousa's "Washington Post March" and "Salute to the Armed Forces" played by the Western Reserve Community Band's Guest Ensemble.

Audience members are invited to join the performers for light refreshments following the concert, which is free and open to the public. For more information, call Donna Anderson at 330-655-1436 or email: info@laurellake.org.
